Sustainability and Responsibility at El Tigre Waterfalls & Hideaway

Guardians of the Forest

At El Tigre Waterfalls & Hideaway, sustainability is not a marketing concept — it’s the foundation of everything we do. Nestled in the heart of Monteverde’s cloud forest, our mission is to protect this unique ecosystem, empower our community, and inspire every visitor to become part of the change.

🌿 A Commitment to the Planet

We believe that true tourism should give back more than it takes. Every step through our trails, every meal served, and every detail of your stay is designed to reduce impact and create a positive footprint on the environment. Our operations are guided by national sustainability standards such as the CST Certification for Sustainable Tourism and the Blue Flag Ecological Program, ensuring that we meet Costa Rica’s highest environmental and social benchmarks.

♻️ Circular and Regenerative Practices

Nothing goes to waste at El Tigre. The organic waste from our horses’ stables is carefully composted and transformed into natural fertilizer for our gardens and surrounding pastures. These areas are not just decorative — they are pollinator gardens, planted with native and endemic species to attract butterflies, bees, and birds. By nurturing these microhabitats, we help restore biodiversity and strengthen the ecological balance of the region.

⚡ 100% Clean Energy

Our entire operation is proudly powered by renewable energy. A custom-built Pelton micro-hydroelectric system, located on the river that flows through our property, generates most of our electricity. This clean energy source is complemented by a network of solar panels, making us a property that operates with 100% clean energy all year round — rain or shine.

🤝 Community and Culture

Our commitment extends beyond the forest. We actively support local suppliers, hire from our community, and collaborate with nearby families, artisans, and farmers. We believe that protecting nature and supporting people go hand in hand — a healthy community creates a healthier environment.

💧 Responsible Travel, Shared Mission

We invite every traveler to join this effort. By understanding and respecting our best practices, you become part of a movement that values nature, culture, and sustainability. Simple actions — staying on the trails, avoiding single-use plastics, or respecting wildlife — help us preserve this paradise for generations to come.

At El Tigre Waterfalls & Hideaway, every visit matters. Together, we are more than guests and hosts — we are Guardians of the Forest. 🌳
